Games of 2006 - Year of the Handheld
In the past year I've spent much more time on my handheld systems than traditional TV-based consoles. Only three of the twelve games I played to completion were not on a handheld.

The finished games, no particular order:
  • Tomb Raider: Legend (PSP) - review
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - comments
  • Katamari Damacy (PS2) - comments
  • Dragon's Lair (Game Boy Color) - review
  • Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (PSP) - comments
  • Wario Ware Inc. Mega Microgames (GBA) - comments
  • Orbital (GBA) - comments
  • Akumajo Dracula XX (Super Famicom)
  • Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception (PSP) - review
  • Elite Beat Agents (NDS) - JohnH's comments
  • Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (NDS) - comments
  • Super Mario Land (GB) - comments
Of these, the best I'd say was Elite Beat Agents. The PSP had a good year, however, with both Ace Combat X and Tomb Raider showing the system was very capable. Other PSP games, like Every Extend Extra and Pinball Hall of Fame have been great even though I haven't mastered them completely. I also recommend Racing Gears Advance and Digidrive, both for the GBA.

And here are all the other games I've played but not finished, spanning ten platforms (Commodore 64, Game Boy, DOS, Lynx, SNES, PSOne, Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS):
  • Racing Gears Advance (GBA)
  • Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB)
  • Pool of Radiance (DOS)
  • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (PS2)
  • GameBoy Tetris (GB)
  • The Island of Dr. Destructo (C64)
  • Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights (DC)
  • Tron 2.0: Killer App (GBA)
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong (GBA)
  • Resident Evil 4 (PS2)
  • Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (PS2)
  • Black (PS2)
  • Prince of Persia: Revelations (PSP)
  • WipeOut Pure (PSP)
  • Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection (PSP)
  • Toy Story (SNES)
  • SSX On Tour (PS2)
  • Area 51 (PSOne)
  • I.Q. Mania (PSP)
  • Coloris (GBA)
  • DigiDrive (GBA)
  • Soundvoyager (GBA)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel (PSP)
  • Midway's Arcade's Greatest Hits (GBA)
  • Dark Arena (GBA)
  • Rampage (Lynx)
  • Bust-A-Move Deluxe (PSP)
  • Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness/Pac-Man World (GBA)
  • Ace Combat Advance (GBA)
  • Every Extend Extra (PSP)
  • Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (PS2)
  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (NDS)
  • Zoo Keeper (NDS)
That's a good number of games experienced at some level, if not completely. Many more games were added to the Curmudgeon Gamer Memorial Library which I haven't had time to play. Someday...someday...

That's a lot of games. Hope you get even more this holiday. Have a great new year!

Thinking back on the year, I've finished the following games:

Feeding Frenzy (finished it, but haven't gone back enough to get all the achievements yet, most are essentially rewards for obsession).
Pac Man (all achievements, so I guess I'm done...otherwise not a "beatable" game).
Gauntlet (saved Rendar solo, played through with the elf, IIRC)
Cloning Clyde
Smash TV

Call of Duty 2 (haven't cleaned up all the stages on Veteran yet, but did finish the campaign, a task for another day in any case).
Oblivion (including all expansion modules available through live so far)
Tomb Raider Legend
Amped 3
King Kong

Fable: The Lost Chapters

I'm relatively close to finishing a few more games...99 Nights, Battle for Middle Earth (need to complete the "evil" campaign), KOTOR, Psychonauts, Half Life 2 (on Xbox, I may or may not ever finish it there...depends a lot on when exactly Valve deigns to release it on 360), and I'm most of the way to level 50 with all pinatas obtained on Viva Pinata (I've also gained all plant related awards...I don't have as much patience for the animal breeding awards, so getting to 50 might be unachievable).

I'm also not more than a couple days from finishing Enchanted Arms, but I know that's not happening this year (was hot on it when I rented it for a few days, but haven't touched it since actually buying it). Same for R6: Vegas (playing Psychonauts and Lego Star Wars II now).

Playing a lot of puzzle / open ended stuff this year that can't get chalked up.
